Better do as you feel comfortable but a word of caution is that tampons can be very dangerous if left in for long time can cause Toxic shock syndrome severe infection. If sanitary pads are getting soaked you can use tampon. I would advise you to consult a Gynaecologist your heavy cycles and get the cause treated and make you comfortable.
